Aktualisierung (möglichst) an jedem Werktag, jeweils am späten Vormittag. Das jeweilige Datum bezieht sich auf den Tag eines Ereignisses (Medienberichte können durchaus mit gehöriger Verspätung kommen). Wir weisen darauf hin, dass diese Daily News immer nur einen momentanen Sachstand reflektieren können, und dass einzelne Meldungen ggf. einer späteren Ergänzung oder auch Verifizierung bedürfen.

LATVIA (multinational)
The Latvian Navy is hosting multinational mine clearance / ordnance disposal operation „Open Spirit 2017“ ... until 31 Aug remove unexploded World War I/II ordnance in Latvian waters/approaches ... 14 nations participating: Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA (some represented within NATO SNMCMG-1)

South China Sea: Satellite photos show at least 11 Chinese vessels operating within 1-2 nm off Pag-asa Island, the largest of the 10 islands in Spratlys administered by the Philippines but also claimed by China ... Philippines suspect possible plans for „invasion“

JAPAN
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) named lead contractor for new class of multipurpose destroyers ... construction to start in 2018 .. 3,900ts /130m ... missions include ASW and mine countermeasures, with capability to operate helicopters, unmanned surface and underwater vehicles ... arms include 5-inch gun, VLS cells; anti-ship missiles, SeaRAM ... integrated mast to house electronics

RUSSIA – SYRIA
„Syrian Express“: Russian Navy former civilian cargo ship „Dvinitsa-50“ in southbound passage of Turkish Straits, probably on a new mission to transport military cargo to Syria

Ahead of upcoming (21 Aug) South Korean – US exercise „Ulchi Freedom Guardian“ North Korea has warned of „uncontrollable move towards nuclear war“

RUSSIA
Pacific Fleet UDALOY class destroyer „Marshal Shaposhnikov“ has begun overhaul and modernization ... some sources claim refit with Kalibr cruise missiles

USA (multinational)
This year’s Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) exercise has started with Philippine phase, to be followed by phases in Singapore and Brunei ... include both at-sea and in-port activities ... Philippine phase conducted off Zambales (Luzon) and in the Sulu Sea; participants inclulde thre Philippine Coast Guard vessels

USA
Developing: Destroyer „John S McCain“ collided with tanker „Alnic MC“ ... in darkness (early hours 21 Aug local time), east of Singapore, enroute a scheduled visit there after South China Sea patrols ... destroyer suffered a deep gash at port side waterline, a bit aft of midships ... both ships sailing under own power (destroyer has asked for tug assistance) to Singapore for initial damage assessment ... five US Navy sailors injured but another ten missing ... search & rescue operation underway, involving local navies/coast guards and US Navy „America“ Amphibious Ready Group

Domestic Boustead has scheduled launching of 1st of six GOWIND-2500 corvettes on 24 Aug ... to be named „Maharaja Lela“ ... commissioning expected in 2019
